  • The outcomes of a study about how HuggingChat spots tasks are shared here.

Green means we knew if the writing was by AI or a person.

Yellow means not sure.

Red means the content was wrongly tagged as either AI-made or original work.

BypassEngine vs HuggingChat

We’re going to write a bunch of pieces to see if BypassEngine can spot text made by HuggingChat.

We’ll also give HuggingChat some tips from a piece written by a person to guide it. HuggingChat and tools like it are great for coming up with ideas and doing research.

But, it’s usually better to use articles written by people when you’re publishing. This is because tools like BypassEngine can tell if the text was made by AI, and AI often makes stuff that sounds kind of the same. So, Google likes to show blog posts written by humans more.

Now, let’s try out some tests with different starts to see how good BypassEngine is at figuring out if HuggingChat made the text!

Comparing Basic Chat Prompts: HuggingChat and BypassEngine

For our first set of tests, we’re going to see how good the newest HuggingChat is at hiding AI-made stuff with no extra help. To keep the tests going smoothly, we’ll stick with using HuggingChat and the BypassEngine tool that finds AI stuff.

[Prompt #1] –Write a 1000-word piece on what kinds of green tech will be big in 2024. Make it feel like it was written by a person, and don’t stick too closely to the usual rules that AI writing programs follow.

We asked for an article of 1000 words, but got 1,196 words instead, even though we told HuggingChat to stick to the limit. Here’s how it turned out, without giving it a lot of extra directions:

The results show that BypassEngine’s AI Checker is 100% sure the content was made by AI.

Let’s get to the next prompt!

[Prompt #2] –Write about green tech trends for 2024. Make it like you’re talking to a buddy and use simple words. Throw in your own thoughts as if you run a green tech company. Use lists and bullet points to make things easier to read.

So, we wanted HuggingChat to chat like it’s the boss of a green tech firm. We also wanted it to sound super chill and human. Let’s check out what BypassEngine thinks about it:

We got a piece of writing that has 650 words. BypassEngine did a great job again, showing it’s very sure the text was written by AI.

Using HuggingChat with Examples Written by People

Giving real examples written by people to AI tools changes how the AI writes about technology. We gave HuggingChat a 1,000-word technology article and asked it to follow that style.

[Prompt #1] –Write a 1000-word article about eco-friendly tech trends for 2024. Try to make the writing sound really natural, like a person wrote it, not a computer. Here’s an example of how to do it: (article)

Right from the start, you can tell this writing sounds better. It’s like HuggingChat dug up some cool ideas to make everything feel more chill and easy-going. Let’s dive into why it sounds so good:

The article had 809 words. BypassEngine, a program, thinks a computer likely wrote it, being 99% sure.

Next, we will tell HuggingChat about all the instructions we followed before and show them the article to see if they think differently about who wrote it.

[Prompt #2] –Write about the cool things we can expect from green tech in 2024. Try to make it sound like something I’d say – you know, like we’re just chatting. Forget all those fancy AI writing rules. Make it feel real, with all the surprises and the easy flow of a good talk. Picture me, leading a top green tech company, sharing my thoughts directly with you. Mix in some fun lists and keep the paragraphs short and sweet. Here’s a style you can use, but please, don’t copy any of their thoughts – just how it’s laid out and how it sounds.

Guess what? Even after trying to sound super human, that smart tool BypassEngine pegged my words as AI-crafted. Yup, they said it was likely AI stuff with total certainty.

These tests show that Bypass Engine is really good at finding content made by AI.

Does HuggingChat keep a record of chats?

  • The latest update from Hugging Chat, as of April 2024, lets users who signed up see their past chats in the menu. But, don’t worry, all the chats you have are just for your eyes and won’t be shared with others.

How do we teach HuggingChat?

  • HuggingChat learned through a special way named reinforcement learning with human help (RLHF). This involved many questions and answers from more than 13,000 people worldwide. These people taught the AI to listen and follow directions better.
  • They found a smart way to gather data in many languages. But, this could lead to some unfairness in the data. It might not show what everyone thinks evenly. Like, they only asked their Discord group (using only English) some questions about who they are, leaving out where they come from.
  • The survey showed that of the 226 people who answered, 201 were guys, 10 were girls, 5 said they were non-binary or other, and 10 didn’t want to answer.

Do People Accept Open-Source Models?

  • Some people didn’t like it when models like StableLM were shared for everyone to use. They said these models were not perfect and could be used to do bad things, such as making fake emails to trick people. But, some others believe that even models that are kept secret and sold, like ChatGPT, which have rules and checks to stop misuse, can also be tricked and are not perfect either.

3. HuggingChat and Other AI Chatbots Comparison

How does HuggingChat resemble other famous AI chatbots?

  • Like ChatGPT and Bing Chat, HuggingChat is a tool that makes things like summaries, essays, letters, emails, and song words. It can fix and write code, make Excel formulas, and answer questions just like ChatGPT does.

Which one is the best, ChatGPT or HuggingChat?

HuggingChat and ChatGPT can both do many things, such as writing code, emails, and even song lyrics. But HuggingChat’s training stopped in April 2023, and ChatGPT’s training includes information up until October 2023.

People often think ChatGPT is better because it has been around longer, has more information to learn from, and tends to give answers that are more correct and reliable. It also has a free version and a premium version that costs $20 a month, but HuggingChat doesn’t cost anything to use.

However, HuggingChat is unique because it sounds more like a human when it talks and anyone can use its open-source features. Still, it’s not perfect and has some downsides.

  • It finds long or hard chats tough.
  • At times, it gets languages or small details wrong.
  • It can sometimes give unclear, unrelated, or wrong replies.
  • The quality of writing can differ a lot. This is true for both long pieces of writing and the code for games.
  • Sometimes it makes content that’s not suitable or just made up

.

HuggingChat, which is still pretty new at version 0.9.1, can get a lot better. It’s different from ChatGPT because people from anywhere can help make it better.

HuggingChat and ChatGPT – how are they not the same?

  • HuggingChat is like a free version of ChatGPT. But right now, it’s not as reliable as the more famous ChatGPT.
  • ChatGPT uses OpenAI’s special GPT-3.5 design. But, HuggingChat works on the LLaMA model, made by the Open Assistant project. This project is a group that doesn’t aim to make money. They made a dataset that helps train Stable Diffusion, which turns text into pictures.
  • HuggingChat is free for all. ChatGPT costs $20 a month for its GPT-4 version.
  • HuggingChat has 65 billion features and is now the top free chat model from Hugging Face. Meanwhile, ChatGPT-4 has more than 1.76 trillion features.

Do HuggingChat and other AI chatbots imagine things?

Sometimes, AI chatbots mix up true things with make-believe, especially when they get info that’s not right.

ChatGPT usually gets things right, but it can mess up too. HuggingChat often makes stuff up because it learned from less info. But, it usually knows when it might be wrong. Google Bard also has a hard time being right all the time. But out of all the big AI models, ChatGPT is often the best at staying on track.

Is HuggingChat like ChatGPT?

HuggingChat is a lot like ChatGPT in many ways. It works just as well and accurately. For example, the way we talk to Chat GPT looks and feels very similar to how we do it with HuggingChat.
