Baidu’s ERNIE Bot and BypassEngine

Baidu just launched a new version of their ERNIE Bot, called 4.0 Turbo. This new version has made some changes in the way the bot understands and uses human language.

ERNIE Bot by Baidu can quickly find and use information from sources online that are trusted and reliable. It does this to give helpful answers to any questions you might have.

Today, we’re going to see how well ERNIE 4.0 does by checking its articles with an AI Detector to figure out if AI checkers can spot them.

For our first experiment, we’ll let the ERNIE Bot create a normal article.

To see how well ERNIE Bot can write, we made some stuff in Chinese first. Then, we used ChatGPT to change it to English.

This way, we kept what the original was trying to say.

Then, we used a tool called BypassEngine to figure out if it could tell ERNIE’s stuff was written by a computer.

For our first try, we asked: “Can you write something short, between 100 to 500 words, about why schools need AI today?” What we got was way longer, 1,070 words, and BypassEngine thought there was an 87% chance a computer wrote it.

Next, we said: “Write about why AI is key in schools, but make it like a talk. Break it up into parts, use lists, and have it sound like a person wrote it.” This time, it was 1,350 words. BypassEngine was pretty sure, again, that a computer did it. Our third test was different.

We took a 1,000-word piece written by a person and told ERNIE to copy that style but keep it friendly for searches online. It wrote 949 words. BypassEngine still guessed it was from a computer.

Even when we tweaked how we asked and tried using real examples, ERNIE’s work still got caught by the AI-detector. To learn more about how BypassEngine figures this stuff out, see our full review on its accuracy.

Let’s talk about Baidu, the big company behind ERNIE Bot.
