Let’s Make a Bot Using Poe

Poe makes it easy for anyone to make their own bot. This cool feature is why many people are talking about Poe.

Poe gives you the tools to make a bot. You can choose to make a ‘prompt bot’ or a ‘server bot.’ Once your bot is ready, you can share it with others in the Poe AI community.

  • Making a chatbot: You can make a chatbot easily without needing to code. Just give it instructions in everyday language.
    • Poe says you can make a bot to handle text, pictures, or videos.
  • Making a server bot: This way, you need to create a server bot. It’s a bit techy because you have to write code. You must build a special part called a ‘custom backend.’ This part lets the bot use the code you make to talk to users.

Making a Prompt Bot with Poe: A Simple Guide

  1. Visit the “Make a Bot” page.

After you sign up and log in, go ahead and click on the “Create Bot” button. You’ll find it in the top-left corner if you’re using the browser version.

If you’re using the app, just tap on the icon with three lines. Then, choose “Create Bot” from the menu that appears. If it asks you to finish signing up, just give the needed information and continue following the steps.

  1. Make your Bot look unique.

When you start making the bot, you can choose to add a picture of it (you don’t have to) and give it a name that you like.

Usually, the bot gets a name by itself, but you can stick with that or change it once you’re done making the bot.

Even though it’s not necessary, you’ll get a chance to write something about your bot and talk about what it’s like.

  1. Change how your Bot acts.

Poe Battles the Bypass Engine Checker

We are going to look at how good Poe is at making stuff that seems like a person made it. We’ll check how it does by looking at what some of the best chatbots on Poe can do and then use Bypass Engine’s AI Checker to see how they match up.

We’ll also add special steps to make the content more human-like and give Poe’s bot an article written by a person. This will help us see if it can pass a test that checks if AI or a human wrote something.

[Test 1] Standard prompts

For our first try, we’ll pick Poe Assistant to answer questions. It’s the usual chatbot for Poe.

“Poe Assistant, write an article between 800 to 1000 words about machine learning trends for 2024.”

The answer came back super quick. It was faster than other AI chatbots and gave us 879 words. Now, let’s see how this stacks up to Bypass Engine’s checker.

Bypass Engine’s AI Detector was sure this text probably came from AI. Next, we’re going to try out more bots on the platform!

Let’s ask Claude-3-Haiku to write about what’s new in machine learning for 2024, aiming for an article between 800 and 1000 words.

After we gave Claude-3-Haiku that task, we got back 895 words. Here’s what Bypass Engine thought about it:

Bypass Engine did a great job again, being totally sure that the text made by Claude-3-Haiku came from an AI.

Now, we’re going to see how the free GPT-4o version on Poe (GPT-4o-Mini) does with the challenge we’ve been giving it:

“GPT-4o-Mini, write an article between 800 to 1000 words about machine learning trends in 2024.”

Here’s what happened when we checked GPT-4o-Mini’s work to see if it was made by AI:

We looked at 931 words on Bypass Engine, and we’re totally sure the text probably came from AI.

Now, we’re going to check out Poe’s chatbot again and make the text sound more human.

[Test 2] Prompt requests with extra instructions

In the second testing phase, we’re going to use something called Poe’s default chatbot, which is named Poe Assistant.

The job we’re giving it is pretty unique. We want to make the words feel more human-like to check if it makes a difference to a tool called Bypass Engine, which tries to spot if a robot or a computer wrote something.

So, the task for [Poe Assistant] is this: Write an article that’s between 800 to 1000 words all about what’s new and exciting in machine learning for the year 2024. The catch? It’s got to sound like it’s coming from a person. That means we want it to chit-chat a bit, use lists that are easy to read, and toss in some “I think” or “In my opinion” phrases here and there.

And yeah, it should steer clear of sounding too much like a robot. The result? Poe gave us an article that was 695 words long.

It definitely had its own way of speaking – a bit different from what we saw before. Now, we’re curious to see what Originality.ai makes of it.

Conclusion

Now you get Quora and its strong AI builder called Poe AI.

Soon, Poe will get better with its easy-to-use AI bot maker and many AI models for all kinds of users.

If you make apps or just want to try a new AI tool that’s easy to use and has lots of big AI models, Poe is a great choice.
